History of the Yountville Club

In the Heart of Napa Valley...

The club was organized on May 31, 1989, and chartered July 19, 1989 with 27 members. The charter President was Ron Elizondo, Postmaster in Yountville at that time.  He has since moved to Texas after retiring from the USPO.  Since 1989, there have been a total of 161 members pass through the club, which includes the 30 members currently on the roster.

After 18 years, there are still two charter members in the club. The Yountville Club holds four project fund-raisers each year, the biggest being the Crab & Pasta Feed held each February.  Another big revenue source is the “Wormburner” Golf Tournament, held in September at the Vintner’s Golf Club and all monies raised go exclusively to scholarships to benefit Yountville graduates.  During Yountville Days in October the club sells hot dogs, and at Easter and Christmas they sell See’s candy.

The town of Yountville is a special community, and the Kiwanis Club of Yountville serves many layers of the population.  Not only are there a high number of tourists visiting throughout the year, the residents fall into several groups; high income home-owners, senior citizens, armed service veterans and laborers.  The California Veterans Home has 1,100 residents, many elderly and disabled.  In preparation for Memorial Day, our club and clubs throughout Division #8 help to clean up the Veterans Cemetery, and enjoy hard work and a BBQ lunch served to all who help.  There are also two “over-55” senior mobile home parks in Yountville as well as other seniors in the community.  The club addresses the needs of these residents by managing the Meals On Wheels program for Yountville, delivering hot meals with volunteer members, with as much as 40 man hours per month.

Other projects filling a wide range of needs are:

  • Contribute to Salvation Army and provide bell ringers during December
  • Contribute to Yountville Community Church to provide food baskets to the needy families of Yountville
  • Support Special Olympics, providing tables, chairs & safety pylons
  • Support the Rose Float
  • Kiwanis Skip-A-Meal
  • Kiwanis International Foundation
  • Cal-Nev-Ha District Foundation
  • Pediatric Trauma Program
  • Providing soda & water for American Legion Baseball at the Veterans Home
  • Providing scholarships to Yountville resident graduates or students who have attended
  • Yountville Elementary School
  • Providing the Napa Junior Miss Pageant winner with a scholarship
  • Kiwanis Kid’s Day, providing free games, prizes, soda & popcorn
  • Sponsorship of Kiwanis Family House
  • Sponsors needy children in the After School Program
  • Presents two Hope of America Awards to a fifth grade boy & girl in memory of Ben Leavy, a Yountville fifth grader who was killed in an auto accident

The club members socialize outside of regular meetings at least twice a year.  The club birthday party is held in May at Yountville Park for members and spouses enjoying a BBQ picnic, and in June a Scholarship Dinner is held to present scholarships to students and their parents.

Anderson at 944-1879.
